Preparing for a Marathon

Coach Jeremy Likness follows his own advice while training for a Marathon. Here's a letter he wrote about his training regime. Those runners who are reading, or anyone wanting to get into better shape, will find his links helpful.

Jeremy Likness, CEO, Natural Physiques™

Marathon Runner

Jeremy - August 1999         Jeremy recently

"When you receive this, we will be just two days away from the half marathon. This is the first race over a 5k I have ever run in my life, and last week was the first time I've run more than 7 or 8 miles.

It was quite a run! I enjoyed it immensely. It took me to parts of the Mickelson Trail I had not seen before, including long wooden bridges that spanned large valleys with creeks flowing through them, just like you'd see in the Wild West movies, only instead of trains there was just me plodding along.

My goal for this run is to finish it (just a shave past 13 miles) in under 2 hours. Possible? I believe that anything is possible with the proper mindset.

This concludes my seven weeks of training - that's right, I decided to take on this race with less than two months to spare!

You can read more about the marathon here:

So what happens after the half marathon? I will take a few days of rest. I am currently planning to start my new program on Wednesday of the following week. I'll do a combination of cardio and weight training to trim down a bit for the summer.

In fact, because I believe in practicing exactly what I preach, I'll be doing the workout that is generated for me at my coaching site,

http://www.naturalphysiques.com/hire

I'll post the udpates to my blog and this e-Zine. And that reminds me about the super 3D animations! I have three articles on my site that cover three very popular exercises. You will learn a lot about these movements,

so take the time to read about them here:

The squat: http://naturalphysiques.com/cms/index.php?itemid=100

The bench press: http://naturalphysiques.com/cms/index.php?itemid=38

And everyone's favorite, the abs: http://naturalphysiques.com/cms/index.php?itemid=103

If you like those articles,

you'll also want to check out:

5-Star arm workouts by Tom Venuto: http://naturalphysiques.com/cms/index.php?itemid=171

Your first pull-up: http://naturalphysiques.com/cms/index.php?itemid=106

And the shoulder joint: http://naturalphysiques.com/cms/index.php?itemid=46

Now, you may have read these articles in the past, but you'll want to revisit the first 3 because we've added something new: some really awesome animated videos that demonstrate not only the proper execution of the exercises, but also highlight the muscle groups.

These are just three examples of the dozens and dozens of illustrations that are available through the workouts designed at:
